My practice is the product of a search for identity as the illegitimate child of an absent immigrant, in the desert of white American culture. Through depictions of family, pop culture and violence, I examine what it means to care and what it means to be American; in an attempt to answer the question: “Are we doomed?”

With roots in vandalism and other nihilistic art forms and an affinity for the provisional, I work in a variety of styles and modalities. I am an explorer searching for my place in the world.

Sebastian Masters explores American culture, the margins and the concept of care through synthetic mediums, ink and charcoal. Born and raised in the Bay Area, they are a style chameleon never settling for one medium or process. They received their Associate of Arts from College of Marin and are currently enrolled in Maine College of Art & Design’s Painting program, with an expected graduation in 2024. They live and work in Portland, Maine.
